I'm much too lazy for that.
But when I wash a quilt for the first time, I use a color catcher sheet in the washer. This sheet picks up all the stray dye in the water and keeps the quilt run free. Also, never leave a damp quilt sit in the washer, that is when most of your dye running happens.
Loved the video! Thanks for your insight. I agree with ...Hi Colleen:
Thanks for your insight. I agree with you about the bleeding that can occur, especially with those darker fabrics and while the smell doesn't bother me, sometimes the fabric is so stiff prior to washing that it almost seems more like cardboard - not easy to work with! I do enjoy ironing too - only fabric though, I'm not much of a clothes ironer.Chatterbox Quiltshttps://www.blogger.com/profile/15767017688036089387noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4855777234305868053.post-65343422555797178562012-02-23T15:09:01.062-07:002012-02-23T15:09:01.062-07:00Thanks for commenting, ladies. Maybe I need to make smaller projects so I can save myself some work, er washing :)Chatterbox Quiltshttps://www.blogger.com/profile/15767017688036089387noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4855777234305868053.post-19764412101934962992012-02-22T10:20:20.141-07:002012-02-22T10:20:20.141-07:00Great advice Kim. I also like my quilts to shrink lots to show off the quilting.Diane McGregorhttp://www.castillejacotton.comnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4855777234305868053.post-1430196055259150122012-02-21T18:50:18.205-07:002012-02-21T18:50:18.205-07:00Hi Kim,

I often find that there is quite a lot of colour released into the water, so I am glad that I do wash.

However, the reasons that I wash now are firstly, that I don't like the smell of new fabric when I iron it. It has a chemical smell that is unpleasant to me. Secondly, I like to iron the fabric. That may sound strange, but when I iron the fabric, I notice the texture and fine details of the design that I had missed before. I get acquainted with the fabric. And, I really enjoy ironing.Colleenhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02198380481975287285noreply@blogger.com
